This European standard describes the requirements to design, testing method for manhole tops and gully tops for vehicular and pedestrian areas. According to the design load and the place of installation, manhole tops and gully tops are divided in to 4 classes: A, B, C, D.
Group 1: Class A, Test load >= 15 kN - 1,5 metric ton.
Areas which can only be used by pedestrians and pedal cyclists.
Group 2: Class B. Test load >= 125 kN ~ 12,5 metric ton.
Used in ares of foot-ways, pedestrian areas, motor vehicles, carparks. Group 3: Class C, Test load >= 250 kN ~ 25 metric ton.
For gully tops installed in the area of kerbside chanels of roads which when measured from the kerb edge, extend a maximum of 0,5m into the carriageway and a maximum of 0,2m into the footway.
Group 4: Class C, Test load >= 400 kN ~ 40 metric ton.
Used in carriageways of roads and parking areas, for all types of road vehicles.
